Profile Introduction
Our Client, an independent Oil and Gas company with over 90
licenses in 25 countries seeks to recruit a Telecommunications
Specialist.
The company is principally engaged in the oil and gas exploration,
development, production and the sale of hydrocarbons and related
activities with operations in Europe, Africa, South Asia and South
America and through successful exploration and consistent delivery of
major projects, the company has become Africa’s leading independent Oil
Company.
The position holder will be supervising the Field Support Analysts and Field Support Coordinator.
Minimum Requirements
Essential Educational, professional qualifications and experience
- IT related Bachelors degree or relevant hands on experience
- ITIL foundation certificate preferential
- Prince 2 or an alternative Project Management Methodology certification or proven large scale project delivery
- Excellent general knowledge and experience of all aspects of IT infrastructure, communication systems within Oil and Gas industry specifically within E&P environments.
- Demonstrate Architect level knowledge and experience in one of the core infrastructure services.
- Experience or a clear understanding of the application of ITIL (or equivalent) as a methodology.
- Experience of producing and critiquing technical documentation is essential.
Job Purpose
- Provide training on telecommunication systems to field support staff.
- Own the company Infrastructure Roadmap and ensure it is delivered efficiently and effectively
- Act in the capacity of technical architect for the company in the area of telecommunications.
- Carry out R&D of new technologies to ensure that fit for purpose and technologically advanced solutions are implemented within the company Infrastructure Environment
- Responsible for reviewing and technically endorsing Infrastructure related business case submissions
- Assist in identifying key communication providers
- Be a part of the Infrastructure Technical Review Board
- Ownership of Continual Improvement solutions that will enhance the performance and operation of the company Infrastructure Environments
- Perform technical audit of all telecommunications systems installations across Global areas.
- Engage with well engineering group to understand existing challenges, formulate a plan which will feed directly into the Infrastructure operation teams continuous improvement plan
- Mentor local national IS staff in support and delivery of field communications packages both onshore and offshore exploration and production environments.
- Deliver robust systems which “fit” the company local business units across the globe and are aligned with the company Infrastructure Roadmap.
- Be the Technical Architect for the company within your given area of expertise.
- Help the company deliver standardized scalable infrastructure systems across all sites.
- Review global and localized change requests and assess potential impacts.
- To understand local business processes and to seek ways of making process improvements and developing process automation.
Job Specification
- Infrastructure architecture design.
- Act in the capacity of a 3rd line support resource
- Mentor local Infrastructure Analysts
- Responsible for reviewing Infrastructure related business case submissions
- Deliver the endorsed Global Infrastructure Roadmap
- Carry out R&D on new Technological Solutions to measure feasibility of relevance to Tullow Global Infrastructure
- Implement Continual Improvement Initiatives
- All Telecommunications services across the company
- Vendor management (Telecom providers)
- Data stream capacity management
- Contribute to technical review board as a subject matter expert
- Remote field communications architecture design
- Be part of the TA taskforce offering 24 x 7 support by acting as the on-call Incident Coordinator.
Key Competencies and Skills
- Ability to design VSAT architecture from ground up
- Proven abilities in Project delivery
- Oil and Gas industry experience within production environment essential
- Must have a good understanding of networks (LAN and WAN), switches, security protocols and firewalls
- Experience delivered VOIP solutions over satellite communications
- Ability and interest in understanding the company’s various business areas and make suggestions for business process improvements and automation.
- Must have strong knowledge of WAN technologies and practices.
- Assisting in the overseeing and coordinating of assigned telecommunications activities
- Manage the installation and maintenance of the organizations telecommunications systems
- Maintains network by troubleshooting and repairing outages; testing network back-up procedures; updating documentation
- Provide highly skilled technical assistance in planning architecture
- Develop and maintain network documentation and schematics
- The ability to communicate effectively at a management, executive and technical level staff
- Excellent communication skills and presentation abilities
- Excellent report writing and interpersonal skills
- Technology and innovation research and development experience to ensure latest technological solutions are implemented
